Long before the first foundation stone was laid, three remarkable leaders set in motion a transformative journey that would redefine ACK St. Andrew's Ndenderu for ages to come. The Vicar/ Area Dean Rev. Titus Mburu Mwangi, Mr. Johnson Kinuthia Chundi, the Vice Chairman of the church and Mr. Edward Kieni Kimani, the chairman of the Development Committee. The three emerged as the initial architect of a bold vision that would challenge the church’s conventional thinking.

Strategic Blueprints of Transformation

The three spearheaded the development of two strategic plans, 2014-2017 and 2018-2023 that would become the cornerstone of the church's remarkable transformation. These weren't just documents – they were prophetic roadmaps that reimagined the church's future.

"We weren't looking to simply expand," Mr. Kimani would later reflect. "We envisioned a multi-purpose sanctuary that could embrace our entire congregation under one roof – a true home for our community of faith."

The Prophetic Guidance of Bishop Emeritus Timothy Ranji Mbuthia

A pivotal moment came when Bishop Emeritus Timothy Ranji Mbuthia challenged the church's initial thinking. Where the original concept was to merely extend the existing church wings, Bishop Mbuthia saw a greater potential.

"Build a new," he charged the emissaries who went to see him at his office in Kiambu. "Not just an extension, but a complete reimagining of what a church can be.” The representatives were the Vicar / Area Dean then Rev. Titus Mburu Mwangi, Mr. Edward Kieni Kimani and Mr. Johnson Chundi Kinuthia and late Fredrick Ng’ang’a (people’s warden).

The Early Fundraising Stages

When the leaders first sat down with the development committee in March 2014, the dream of expanding ACK St. Andrew's Ndenderu seemed ambitious. The initial fundraising strategy was ingenious:

• 24 active committee members each tasked with raising KSh 20,000
• An innovative "Pig Bank" system engaging 600 members to raise KSh 10,000 within six months

When Rev. Capt. Geoffrey Kinyanjui arrived at ACK St. Andrew's Ndenderu in 2019, the church expansion project was in its nascent stages. From that moment, he transformed from a spiritual leader to the project's most dedicated champion – part visionary, part foreman, entirely committed.

A Hands-On Approach to Ministry

"I didn't just want to be a spectator in this journey," Rev. Kinyanjui recalls. "Each phase of construction became a metaphor for our spiritual growth – foundational, structural, protective, and ultimately, transformative."

Navigating the Construction Phases with Precision

1. First Phase (Substructure): When Rev. Kinyanjui joined, the foundational work was underway. He immediately teamed up with the Development Committee and Church Council to implement a rigorous oversight mechanism, ensuring that every cubic inch of the foundation reflected the church's commitment to excellence.
2. Second Phase (Superstructure): Here, Rev. Kinyanjui's background as a church army captain became evident. With military-like precision, he coordinated teams, managed resources, and ensured that the structural framework was optimized. Each column, beam, and wall became a testament to collective faith and meticulous planning.
3. Third Phase (Roofing): The nearly Ksh 5 million spent on roofing was more than a technical necessity. For Rev. Kinyanjui, the development committee and the church council, it symbolized protection – sheltering the growing congregation's dreams and aspirations. They collectively oversaw the weatherproofing, ensuring the structure could withstand both literal and metaphorical storms.

"Every nail driven, every wall raised was a prayer," Rev. Kinyanjui often told the congregation. His leadership transcended physical construction. He transformed the project into a collective spiritual experience, where each member felt personally invested.

Adaptive Strategies: Turning Challenges into Opportunities

As the project's scope expanded, so did the fundraising target – from around KSh.12 million to almost KSh 100 million today. The development committee didn't just raise funds; they revolutionized fundraising approaches:

1. Pillar System: Seven pillars representing patience, faith, love, peace, kindness, joy, and hope raked in substantial amounts.
2. Annual birthday celebration contributions
3. "Adopting" church items for donation
4. Selling various items
5. Identifying and partnering with founder members and their families
6. Introducing "Mega Cards" with a substantial donation target of KSh 100.000
7. Engaging cell groups and Zones, which initiative formed the backbone of funds mobilization.
8. Inviting guests, friends and partners from within and outside the church.

"We started with a simple goal," recalls Mr. Chundi, chairman of the development committee. "But as our vision grew, so did our collective commitment."

Breaking Down the Mega Project

The church expansion wasn't just a fundraising journey, but a meticulously planned construction marvel:

• Phase I - Substructure: Laying the foundation, literally and metaphorically, with precise groundwork and a foundation strong enough to hold three more floors.

• Phase II - Superstructure: Constructing the main framework, transforming architectural plans into tangible progress.

• Phase III – Roofing: Securing and weatherproofing the emerging sanctuary.

• Phase IV - Finishing: Adding intricate details – flooring, painting, electrical work, and plumbing – bringing the vision to life.

A Community Triumph

To date, the church has raised an astounding KSh 90 million against an estimated total cost of KSh 100 million with mobilization efforts ongoing.

"This isn't just a building," Rev. Kinyanjui emphasizes. "It's a monument to what can be achieved when a community moves in unity, driven by faith and shared commitment."

The church’s two strategic plans of 2014-2017 and 2018-2023 have been almost fully realized, with objectives including:

• Creating a multi-purpose sanctuary
• Accommodating the entire congregation in a single, unified space
• Developing a facility that serves multiple community needs
• Establishing a long-term vision for church growth
