Testimonials - 25 Years ACK ST Andrews Ndenderu

From Humble Beginnings to a Beacon of Faith

In the heart of Kiambu County stands a testament to God's faithfulness—ACK St. Andrew's Church Ndenderu. As we celebrate its 25th anniversary as a parish, we look back at a journey that began in 1961, tracing the footsteps of faith that have led to today's thriving spiritual community.

The Foundation Years: 1961-1991

The story of St. Andrew's Ndenderu begins in 1961, when the first seeds of faith were planted in this community. For three decades, the church grew steadily under the nurturing care of devoted servants of God, eventually becoming strong enough to be elevated to a parish under Gacharage in 1991. This milestone marked the beginning of an extraordinary journey of growth and transformation.

Growth and Innovation: The English Service Story

The introduction of the English Service in November 1991 marked a turning point in the church's history. What began with just 29 members and an offering of Kenya Shillings 45 and 50 cents has grown into a vibrant congregation requiring two services to accommodate all worshippers.

Under various leaders, particularly during Rev. Titus Mburu's tenure, the English Service implemented innovative strategies that catalyzed tremendous growth:

  • Formation of dynamic cell groups
  • Development of vibrant praise and worship teams
  • Establishment of specialized ministries for different age groups
  • Organization of retreats, seminars, and community outreach programs

Infrastructure Development: Building for the Future

The church's physical development has matched its spiritual growth:

  • The Vicarage: Rented out to the Lily of the Valley school.
  • An Administration Block: That housed a state of the art vicar’s office, Secretary office and an upstairs boardroom.
  • Kama House: Originally envisioned as a hospital, became a center for men's ministry
  • MU House: Generates rental income for church operations
  • Kings and Queens: A washroom facility
  • Sunday School Facilities: Responding to growing needs, the church developed specialized spaces for:
    • Pre-teens
    • Teenagers
    • Children
    • Different primary school grades

Modern Amenities for Modern Needs

The new sanctuary represents the culmination of years of growth and planning, featuring thoughtful additions like:

  • A specially designed lactating room with screens for mothers to follow services while caring for their infants
  • Modern audio-visual systems
  • Spacious worship areas to accommodate the growing congregation

A Vision Fulfilled: The Mega Church

The journey from a small parish to a mega church has been realized through the dedicated leadership of successive vicars:

  • Rev. Canon David Nyoro who planted the initial seed

  • Rev. Canon Juliet Muthoni Bundi who laid the foundations of the church growth
  • Rev. Titus Mburu who nurtured exponential growth
  • Rev. Dr. Paul Kuria who embraced the mega church vision
  • Rev. Capt Geoffrey Kinyanjui Njoroge who stewarded the five-year construction project to completion

Sister Parishes: Extending the Kingdom

The growth of St. Andrew's has led to the establishment of:

  • Gatuikira Parish
  • Kianjogu Sub-parish Each carrying forward the legacy of faith and service.

Cultural Heritage and Modern Ministry

The church maintains its cultural roots while embracing contemporary needs:

  • The Kikuyu Service continues to strengthen the faith of the founding members, celebrating numerous marriages and anniversaries
  • The English Service has evolved to meet the needs of a growing, diverse congregation

Looking Forward: The Next 25 Years

As St. Andrew's celebrates its Silver Jubilee as a parish, it stands as a beacon of faith, hope, and community service. The growth from its humble beginnings to today's magnificent sanctuary mirrors the biblical parable of the mustard seed—from the smallest of beginnings to a mighty presence that provides spiritual shelter for thousands.

The story of ACK St. Andrew's Ndenderu is not just about buildings and numbers; it's about faithful servants who dreamed big, worked tirelessly, and trusted God's timing. As we celebrate 25 years as a parish, we look forward to continuing this legacy of faith, service, and growth for generations to come.

May the next 25 years see even greater manifestations of God's faithfulness as we continue to build on the strong foundation laid by those who came before us.
