KAMA - HUMBLE BEGINNINGS TO UNSHAKABLE FOUNDATIONS - THE STORY OF KAMA

The journey of the Kenya Anglican Men’s Association (KAMA) at ACK St. Andrew’s Ndenderu began as a mustard seed, planted with faith and nurtured by dedication. Initially known as the Fathers’ Association, the chapter was officially consecrated in 1988, four years after its inception in Thimbigua by Bishop Njuguna in 1984.

This association underwent a transformative moment in 2001 when Archbishop David Gitari proposed the name “Kenya Anglican Men’s Association (KAMA)” during a historic meeting of church leaders at All Saints Cathedral, Nairobi. The change marked a new chapter, aligning the group with a national vision of faith-driven service and leadership.

The association's early leadership included John Githunguri Kanyua, who briefly acted as chair before handing over to Peter Kariuki Kiniu, and Peter Ng’ang’a Karega, who became treasurer in 1992 and later the longest serving chairman before passing the mantle Mr. Boniface Michuki Chundi. Despite its small initial membership, the association steadily grew, and today it boasts 180 active members under the leadership of Mr. John Francis Migwi. This growth reflects the richness of its activities, ranging from darts and folk song performances to seminars and educational tours to Zanzibar, Lamu, Rwanda, and Burundi.

KAMA has been a vital support system for its members. Its welfare component helps men strengthen their families through wedding vow renewals, assists in dowry negotiations, and invites older mentors to offer guidance on life issues. Through the association, men have also honed their leadership skills, including learning how to lead church services and scripture readings.

Among KAMA’s greatest achievements is the construction of KAMA House, a rental apartment whose proceeds fund the association’s initiatives and support the church. However, their most impactful contribution is their unwavering support for the construction of the new Mega Sanctuary. The men of KAMA led key initiatives, such as “Buying the Doors, Windows and the Cross.” Some of the members have taken on critical roles as foremen and clerk of works during the construction of this Mega Sanctuary Project, all without requesting pay. They are, Mr. Samuel Githenya, Robinson Mboche, and Boniface Michuki. Their presence and generous contributions at fundraising events further solidified their role as key pillars of this grand project.

As ACK St. Andrew’s Ndenderu celebrates the consecration of its Mega Sanctuary and 25 years since its elevation to a parish, KAMA stands as a living testament of faith, service, unity and calling - a towering legacy that inspires the entire community.

Currently, the office bearers include: John Francis Migwi (chairman), Antony Muchiri Mbiriri (Vice Chairman), Morris Kinyanjui Mbugua (Treasurer), James Kanja Magua (Secretary), Peter Kihuyu Mburu (Organizing Secretary), Alex Gathiru, James Ndungu Mungai, David Macharia Choru.
